Bruschetta is a dish that originated in central Italy. It consists of grilled bread (can be either white or multigrain bread), rubbed with garlic and drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. You can vary with red pepper, tomato, sausage, vegetables and/or cheese (mozzarella). In some cases, the olive oil is pre-mixed with Italian herbs such as basil and
oregano.
Bruschetta is usually served as a snack or appetizer. In Tuscany, bruschetta is called fettunta, which means "oiled slice".
