The ingredients for a successful BBQ are the company, the culinary creations that will win you hearts, and the barbecue itself. We will confidently leave the first two to you, but when it comes to choosing a barbecue , we can be of help. In this section, we put gas and charcoal side by side and explain the advantages and disadvantages of both grilling methods.

Charcoal: for the authentic BBQ experience

Advantages

  • The ritual of lighting the fire, the glow of the coals and the delicious aromas that rise from them... For a lot of barbecue fans, nothing beats charcoal.

  • The same goes for the flavour. The authentic smoky taste of meat roasted over gently glowing charcoal is the most important reason to choose a charcoal barbecue.

  • Most charcoal barbecues are easy to take with you. For example, surprise your friends with a culinary feast in the park or on the beach. Multifunctional: you can experiment with direct and indirect grilling, smoking and much more.

Disadvantages

  • It takes some time before a charcoal barbecue heats up enough to start grilling. Count on about 30 minutes if you use a briquette starter and about 45 minutes if you light the charcoal without any aids.

  • With a charcoal barbecue, you can adjust the temperature by making the air vents larger or smaller. However, this does not go very fast and the temperature control is less accurate than it is with gas.

  • Cleaning is more time-consuming than with a gas barbecue.

Gas: for speed and convenience

Advantages

  • A gas barbecue quickly reaches the right temperature. Just turn on the gas and within a few minutes you can put the meat on the grill. Cooling down also goes faster, because no coals are left glowing. This contributes to a higher level of safety.

  • You can control the temperature of a gas barbecue just as easily and precisely as with a gas range cooker. This makes a gas barbecue ideal for the challenge of preparing several dishes at varying temperatures.

  • Cleaning is easier and faster. Put the barbecue on high for 10 minutes to burn off any residues, let it cool down, and you can the wipe the grille clean in a jiffy.

  • With a gas barbecue, you don't have to deal with smoke and the risk of accidents is smaller. You can use a gas barbecue on the balcony without exposing your neighbours to the smoke or worrying about fire hazards.

Disadvantages

  • A gas barbecue takes more time to assemble and is less easy to transport, because you also have to carry a gas tank.

  • In general, gas barbecues are more expensive than charcoal barbecues.

Or choose the best of both worlds

Have you not made up your mind yet: charcoal or gas? Then there is a third option: barbecues that offer a combination of both, like the Boretti Ibrido. You can do anything you like with these and are assured of an evening where people will reminisce for a long time about all the wonderful things that were served up.
